With good daily oral hygiene and regular check-ups with your dentist will help keep your teeth and gums healthy. At Ashley Down Dental we regard dental hygiene appointments an essential service and advise every six months.

Our hygienist can spot things you can’t in your daily routine; they can remove plaque and tartar which cannot be tackled at home, which can lead to gingivitis and gum disease.

Brushing and Flossing

Brush your teeth using a toothbrush with a small head containing soft bristles.

Brushing twice a day is recommended: morning after breakfast and evening before bed is most effective to allow the fluoride in the toothpaste to work, especially during the night.

Parents should help in brushing the teeth of young children and also supervise the brushing of children in the early school years.

Floss once a day to remove plaque from between the teeth. By brushing and flossing every day you will reduce the risk of gingivitis (gum bleeding).

We are passionate about helping our patients prevent gum disease and treating those who have it.

Your hygienist will be able to give you all the necessary guidance on how to keep your smile healthy, including dietary advice to help minimise tooth decay. During your appointment we will remove any plaque, check your gums and give your teeth a good polish, leaving them feeling clean and shiny.
